Five tips to lower blood pressure naturally. What a great idea for an article right? But if you have high blood pressure or hypertension you know that five tips are not going to completely take care of your condition don't you. You already know the dangers that come with HBP and if they could all go away with a few tips there wouldn't be 60 million people still suffering from the disease.
Well I'm going to give you the tips because you can use them to jump start your war against high blood pressure. I'm going to list them because with this condition, every little thing you do has an impact and if you just take advantage of one or two that's a good thing.
Deep in your heart you know you can't mess with this disease. You can tell yourself that you don't have time to really work at it but you know what the risks are and you're probably counting on the "it won't happen to me" school of preventative medicine. If I can get you to do just a little bit and you see it work, then maybe you'll get motivated to do the rest of what's necessary.
So here goes;
Apple Vinegar
This takes less than three minutes to make and drink. Take a teaspoon of un-distilled apple vinegar, the stuff with the goop in the bottom of the bottle, and mix it with half a glass of water (4 ounces). Drink this shortly after you wake up in the morning. After three days, increase the amount from a teaspoon to a tablespoon. After six days on this regimen people have reported a decrease in both systolic and diastolic pressure of up to 12 points.
Hydrate
Most of us do not take in enough water each day as it is. If you have high blood pressure and you are on medication, odds are it's a diuretic. The idea behind the medication is to flush out salt. Well guess what. If you drink enough water you're going to flush out the salt naturally and you will have the added benefit of "softening" blood vessels which will allow for more elasticity and a reduced blood pressure.
You should drink half you're body weight expressed in ounces each day. So if you weigh 150 pounds you should drink a minimum of 75 ounces of water daily.
Bananas
Did you know that salt is only half the story when it comes to controlling blood pressure? The relationship between salt and potassium controls the fluid levels in our bodies. Salt retains fluids and as a result can increase blood volume which in turn increases blood pressure. Salt without potassium to balance it retains even more fluid.
Bananas are nature's perfect fast food snack. They are loaded with potassium and dietary fiber. Eat one a day to help balance out the sodium in your body. They're great on cereal, make a low calorie lunch dessert, or can pick you up at the end of the day. Slice them up, put them on low fat ice cream and drizzle no fat chocolate syrup over them and you'll have a hard time telling yourself you're only doing this to help your pressure.
Sneakers
Feeling guilty about the banana sundae? Good. Now it's time to walk off some of those calories and reduce your blood pressure at the same time. Thirty minutes of aerobic exercise can lower your pressure immediately by 4 to 5 points. Exercise is the absolutely fastest way to lower pressure. Basically, by exercising you are doing four things that will benefit your BP. First you are training your blood vessels to expand and contract by increasing pressure through the aerobic exercise. Blood vessels need to be worked out just like all parts of the cardio vascular system. A sedentary life style will cause hypertension and a host of other problems as well.
Your blood vessels get worked out and so does the most important muscle in your body, your heart. A healthy toned heart can pump with less strain than one that is weak from lack of exercise. Exercising also is a great way to burn of hormones that linger in the body as a result of stress. And of course there's the obvious benefit of dropping some pounds with continued exercise.
Tea
Green and black teas are high in antioxidants which we need to fight the oxidation process going on in the blood vessels. Free radicals which cause the oxidation, ultimately are responsible for forming the plaque in our arteries that leads to high blood pressure and coronary disease.
So there you have it. Five tips for lowering blood pressure that are easy, fast and fit into anyone's lifestyle. But if you really want to take this seriously there is a ton more you can do naturally, particularly with diet, that can actually cure your condition.
It's your body, you make the choices. Try to make the right ones.
